2996 - A Tribute to Dennis M Carey
Like the majority of bloggers taking part in this tribute, I didn’t know the man I’m writing about. And like many of the other bloggers, I wasn’t quite sure what to write about somebody I’d never met.
Dennis M Carey died on September 11th 2001 in the World Trade Centre. He was there trying to save the lives of the thousands of people trapped inside.
Dennis was a family man, he had a wife and 2 children. He worked hard as a New York City fire-fighter for almost two decades, and for seven years before he died, he’d begun working with Hazardous Materials Company 1 in Queens.
He loved to travel with his wife and 2 children. He spent Sunday September 9th at Robert Moses with his wife, children and some good friends. He spent a happy and relaxed day there and even had a seagull steal his hamburger.
Dennis also loved to do home cooking. Gourmet cooking at that. He had every Bon Appetit magazine going back 15 years and the recipe had to be followed exactly. No improvisations were allowed.
His claim to fame was that when he was at a Diana Ross concert in Madison Square Gardens, she picked him out of the audience during her performance of “Muscle” and he was on stage with her. His picture was in the papers the next day.
Dennis is a man I would’ve been honoured to know. He brought happiness, laughter and love to many people.
He died doing a job he loved. He died doing something he was proud of.
I hope you are at peace.
